The Cincinnati Red s and San Diego Padres open a three game series today in San Diego. The Reds are trailing the NL Central by 5 games and they are 1.5 games behind in the NL Wild Card. Meanwhile, the Padres are just 3 back of the Dodgers in the NL West and they currently lead the Phillies by a game in the NL Wild Card. The Padres have won their last two games and 7 of their last 10 overall. The Reds have fallen from grace. They are losers of 6 straight and 7 of their last 10.
The New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds played extra innings today. The game was all tied 2-2 going into the 10th inning. Endy Chavez hit a crucial double in the Met’s half of the 10th giving the Mets a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Billy Wager mowed down the Reds and closed the door.
Tonight, the Reds and Indians kick off an Interleague series. The Reds are +123 and the Indians are -133. The under/over is 9.5 with the over being -115 and the under set at -105. This game could be called the “someone needs to win†series. Both of these teams are playing horrible right now. The Indians are coming off of a series at home against the Cubs were they took just 1 of 3. Ironically, the won the game Maddux pitched in. The Reds just finished a four game set with the Mets. They split the series.
