Will the Yankees sign every free agent this off-season? One of these questions was answered today when Joe Torre held said he was coming back next season.

If Torre is staying, does that mean A-Rod will be going? Something has to change this off-season otherwise the Yankees will just end their season in disappointing fashion for the fourth straight season. There seems to be a huge cry brewing from Yankee fans to trade A-Rod.

One rumor that’s already being circulated is that A-Rod will be returning to the Mariners in a deal involving Adrian Beltre. Personally, I hope this rumor remains a rumor. A-Rod could be shopped this off-season rather easily, because the Rangers are still paying part of his $25.6 million salary and the Yankees would probably kick in some cash to help as well. That means a team might be able to get A-Rod for about $7 million next season.

Word out of Yankees camp is that A-Rod isn’t being traded, but we should know better than to believe that. My guess is that the Yankees will quietly see if there’s any interest in A-Rod and move him if the deal is right. Otherwise, he’ll be a Yankee next season. It boils down to the postseason for the Yanks. It’s all about winning and they won’t keep someone one their team that consistently fails to produce in the off-season.

One thing is for sure. The Yankees will be looking for pitching heavily now. They had perhaps the best offensive lineup in the history of the game this season and they went out with a whimper.
