The Kansas City Royals gave the Chicago White Sox all they could handle today. At the end of 9 innings of play, the score was tied 4-4. The White Sox could not afford to lose this game and fall yet another game behind Detroit. In the top of the 10th inning, the White Sox scored 3 runs to seal the deal. The Royals made it interesting by scoring one in the bottom of the 10th and threatening. The final was 7-5.

Both teams used 5 pitchers each. Buehrle started for the White Sox. He lasted 6 innings and gave up 2 runs over 4 hits and 1 walk. He was on his game. Unfortunately, the White Sox hitters were scoring in limited fashion. Thornton came in later and gave up the other 2 runs over 3 hits and a walk. He only recorded 1 out.

Perez started for the Royals. He was pulled after the 4th. He gave up 2 runs over 3 hits and 2 walks. His replacement, Dohmann, gave up a run in 1.1 innings of work. The big 10th inning blow came with Burgos on the mound. Despite getting out of the 9th, he was tattooed for 3 quick runs in the 10th and lost it for the Royals.

The White Sox keep pace with the Tigers, who won their game as well. Since the Red Sox lost, the White Sox are now tied for the Wild Card lead.
