The Minnesota Twins surprised many this season with their late run to the MLB playoffs. Many had written them off, but here we are in September and here they are. Santana took the mound for the Twins yesterday and he opened as a $4 favorite in Vegas. That’s unheard of. The Twins had a tough time with the Royals and needed a late inning run to seal the deal.
The Royals jumped on top with 2 runs in the 3rd inning. The Twins answered with one run in the bottom of the inning, but it was 2-1 Royals. The tying run came in the bottom of the 6th. Going into the 8th it was 2-2 and the home crowd was getting restless. However, the Twins came through in the clutch and took a 3-2 lead into the 9th inning. That was the final score.
Santana had another masterful game. He went 8 solid innings and allowed 2 runs over 7 hits. He didn’t allow a walk or home run and he struck out 5. He’s 19-6 on the season and will have one last chance to get to 20 wins on the season. For the Royals, Perez gave it a good go. He left the game in the 6th inning with a tie on the board. His relief, Peralta, gets the loss. He surrendered the final run to the Twins.
The Twins are now 94-63 on the season and primed for the playoffs. The Royals are 58-99 and just one loss away from the century mark. The good news for the Royals is that there’s only 5 games left in their miserable season.
