The A’s finally had their 5 game winning streak snapped today. The Texas Rangers came out to play. The game was close, 2-0, until the top of the 5th when the Rangers scored 4 runs to make it 6-0. They weren’t done. In the top of the 6th, the Rangers added 7 more runs to make it 13-0 and the game was over. The final score was 14-0.
Barry Zito lasted 5 innings. He gave up 6 runs over 1 walk and 11 hits. His replacement, Halsey, got one out and gave up 6 more runs over 3 hits and 2 walks. One of those runs was unearned. The Texas Rangers teed off on A’s pitching. They launched 5 shots over the fences.
Vicente Padilla picked up his 12th win on the season (12-7). He pitched 7 strong innings. The A’s got 6 hits and 1 walk from him, but nothing to show for it. Padilla struck out 6 batters. Mahay pitched 2 innings in relief. He gave up 1 hit and no runs or walks.
The Rangers pick up a game on the A’s who still lead the AL West. The Rangers avoided the sweep by picking up the win today.
