The Tigers simply ran out of gas today. Despite having an early 1-0 lead, they were unable to get anything going against the Devil Rays in Tampa. The Devil Rays took a 2-1 lead in the 4th and never looked back. In the 6th, they put the game out of reach by scoring 4 runs and taking a 7-1 lead. The Tigers scored 2 meaningless runs in the 9th. The final was 7-3.
It just wasn’t Rogers’ day. Kenny Rogers pitched 5 innings and gave up 5 runs over 5 hits and 4 walks. He’s 11-5 now. His performance might have not been so damaging if the offense didn’t struggle so much. The culprit was Casey Fossum. Just 5-4 on the season, he manhandled the Tigers. He put in 7 superior innings of work. Only 6 Tiger hitters reached base and only one scored—it was an unearned run.
Despite the loss, the Tigers still maintain control of the AL Central. The recent White Sox slump has helped Detroit get out to a nice lead.
