The St. Louis Cardinals are doing a bit of bargain bin hunting lately. On Wednesday, the Cardinals and Ryan Franklin agreed to a one-year deal for $1 million.
In what has become the off-season of over paying MLB players, this deal seems a bit awkward. Surely Franklin is worth a few bucks more than $1 million.
In 2006, Franklin had a 4.54 ERA and was pretty consistent on the road and at home. He was 6-7 on the season and was used as a reliever. He can be used as a starter if needed.
It looks like the Cardinals picked up a good deal. Franklin can help the bullpen and come in and start should Mulder or any other start go down—all for $1 million.
