Brett Myers, a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, was arrested recently for hitting his wife in the face. He performed this act right out in the open on the street. The incident took place in Boston. His wife posted the whopping $200 bail. On August 4th, he will appear before a judge.
The Philadelphia Phillies did nothing about the incident. Why? He’s their ace and in sports, you don’t penalize people that mean the most to your team. What a great example the Phillies are setting for everyone. According to the Phillies, it’s ok to hit women and beat your wife. Funny, one of the reasons we are trying to “free†people in Iraq is because of the way women are treated. Perhaps we should take a look at our own backyard first.
Sports bettors can rest easy. Brett Myers is taking some time off, through the All Star break, to get him home in order. He will be back pitching in no time. Let’s hope he learns how to be a real man over his time off. Myers didn’t have too much to say on his behalf. In a statement, he said, “First, while I dispute that the facts are as alleged, I recognize that my behavior was inappropriate and for that I apologize. Second, I recognize that the incident created an embarrassing situation for many people, including my wife and family, my teammates, the Phillies organization, and fans, and I am very sorry for that.”
