Thanks to their 12-3 win over Seattle and LA Angels 5-2 loss against Texas on Tuesday, the Oakland A’s have won the AL West division. They are going back to the playoffs. In reality, they have been expected to clinch for about a week or so, but the Angels kept winning and hanging around. It’s official now. The Angels season is over and the A’s are in the show.
The A’s were never in any trouble of losing the game against Seattle yesterday. They came out firing. They scored 1 run in the 1st inning and followed it up with 4 more in the 2nd inning. They combined for 6 runs in the 7th and 8th innings. Seattle was just going through the motions. The A’s beat the Mariners 12-3. The Mariners dropped to 76-82 on the season and dashed any hopes of finishing .500.
The Mariners started Woods, who was 6-3 on the season. Woods lasted just 4 innings. He gave up 11 hits, 3 walks and 6 runs. He also surrendered two home runs. He’s 6-4 on the season now.
Oakland sent out Rich Harden. He was masterful through 5 innings of work. He didn’t allow a single run over the 3 baserunners the Mariners had. He also struck out 5 hitters. The Mariners scored two of their runs off of Saarloos and the other one off of Gaudin. The A’s can now focus on the playoffs. They are 91-66 this season so far with 5 games left to go.
