We’re still a few months away from the 2008 MLB season, but I thought it would be good to check out some MLB futures.
There isn’t much of a surprise in the American League’s MLB futures. The Boston Red Sox are favored to win the American League Pennant and the New York Yankees are a close second. The Angels, Tigers and Indians are right there too.
The three long shots—or teams to kiss your money goodbye as I like to say—are the Kansas City Royals, Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays.
Over in the National League’s MLB futures the New York Mets are the favorite. Sorry, I’m not buying it. When the New York Mets can learn not to crash and burn, I’ll start considering them a serious contender.
The Braves, Phillies, Diamondbacks and Astros are at the top as well. The Nationals and Pirates round out the bottom of the list.
The Boston Redsox are a 4.5 to 1 favorite to win the 2008 World Series and I’m definitely leaning that way. Value though? No.
The National League is getting no respect. But why should it? The top four teams in the 2008 World Series MLB futures list are American League teams—Red Sox, Yankees, Angels and Tigers.
So what are this year’s MLB futures telling us? It will be another American League season. Sorry National League fans.
