Going into the 8th inning, the Tigers had the lead 3-2. However, the Minnesota Twins managed to push two runs across the plate and take a 4-3 lead, which was the final. The game had more implications for the Twins than the Tigers. The Tigers have a commanding lead in the AL Central and are 76-38 on the season. The Twins are fighting for the wildcard.
Bonderman started for the Tigers and pitched very well. He went 7 innings and gave up 2 runs over 8 hits and 2 walks. Unfortunately the Tigers relief pitching didn’t come through. Walker came in and gave up a run without recording one out. Next, Zumaya came in and gave up the final run. He also got the loss.
Chalk up another win for Johan Santana who’s now 13-5 on the season. He pitched 7 great innings. Santana allowed 3 runs over 4 hits and 2 walks. Joe Nathan came in and got his 25th save. He struck out 2 in the 9th inning to close the door.
The Tigers are still 8.5 games up on the White Sox, who lost today, and the Twins. Both the White Sox and Twins are now tied for the Wild Card lead. Boston is one game back, because they somehow found a way to lose to Kansas City again.
