The Milwaukee Brewers have the best record in all of MLB baseball. Are they the best team in the NL or the MLB? Hardly.
The 2007 Brewers are, so far, proving that records are misleading. They are 24-10, which is a .706 win percent. They’ve won 6 in a row and 9 of their last 10.
If I told you that their last three games were against the Washington Nationals (9-25) and their four before that were against the Pittsburgh Pirates (14-18), would you still be impressed?
The best team the Brewers have faced has been the Dodgers. They took two of three, but that was the first series of the season. You can always discount the initial games. Everyone is just getting into the swing of things.
So, Dodgers aside, how many teams have the Brewers played that have winning records? One—the Chicago Cubs. Yep, that’s it. The Cubs are a paltry 16-15, but they “technically” have a winning record.
The Brewers have played six games against the Cubs and they’ve split them so far (3-3). All the rest of their wins have come against losing teams.
Milwaukee opens up a three-game set in New York against the Mets on Friday. This will be their first real test of the season.
The Mets are 21-12, but only 7-7 at home. In a sense, it will be a series of proving worth for both of these teams.
Should the Brewers win the series, we can start talking about them being a winning club. But, as of now, they’ve just been capitalizing on poor play and a weak schedule.
