Yesterday, the Mets lost a heartbreaker to the Florida Marlins. Today, the Mets were determined to get out of the gate fast—and that’s what they did. The Mets scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning and never had to look back. They added another in the 2nd and 3rd. The Marlins made it interesting by scoring 2 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th, but they fell just short. The Mets won 6-5.
Nolasco picks up his 7th loss on the season. He had a terrible outing. In just 2 innings of work, he gave up 8 hits, 1 walk and 4 earned runs (Mets also scored one unearned). Pinto was excellent in relief. He shut down the Mets, allowing just 1 hit and 3 walks, over his 5 innings of relief.
Trachsel, 10-5, got the win for his 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs over 7 hits and 1 walk. Hernandez relieved him and gave up 2 runs in his lone inning of work. Fortunately for the Mets, the other 4 relief pitchers stepped it up and shut down the Marlins. Billy Wagner got his 23rd save on the season. He came on in the 9th and struck out the side to end the game.
