The Chicago White Sox made a late push in today’s game with the Minnesota Twins, but it was too little too late. After five innings of play the White Sox had the lead, 2-0, but it all went downhill after that. In the sixth inning, the Twins came alive and scored 3 runs to take a 3-2 lead. In the seventh inning, they built on that lead by scoring 3 more. They now led 6-2. They went up 7-2 in the ninth. The White Sox scored 2 in the bottom of the ninth, but it didn’t matter. The Twins won 7-4.
Brad Radke picked up just his 9th win on the season. He is now 9-8. He pitched 6 innings and allowed 2 runs over 7 hits. In the 9th, Lohse came on to close the door, but he almost blew it. The White Sox get two hits and two runs off of him, before he shut them down for good.
Javier Vazquez got the loss for the White Sox. He’s not doing too well. He’s 9-6 on the season. Vazquez went 6 mediocre innings. He allowed 5 runs on 8 hits and a walk. He struck out 4 Twins hitters. After he was removed, Cotts came in and gave up a run in 1 inning of work. Following him was Riske who did the same. Finishing the game was McCarthy. He got the last two outs.
The White Sox surrender a crucial game to the Tigers who won today. With a pile of teams fighting for the Wild Card, the White Sox can’t afford to give away games. They must be wondering when Detroit is going to run out of steam. If Detroit keeps this momentum up, the White Sox might be in danger of missing the playoffs.
