Last night Tom Glavine’s performance was anything but acceptable. Still, it was enough to get him the victory thanks in large part to the Mets’ offense, which rattled off 9 runs in a 9-7 victory over the LA Dodgers. Glavine was expected to go about 7 innings and give up 3 runs like normal, but last night the Dodgers had other plans. He ended up pitching 5 innings and giving up 6 runs including 3 walks and 7 hits.
With his 9th win, Glavine becomes the first nine game winner. There are four pitchers sitting on 8 wins and waiting for their next start to tie Glavine who becomes the first by pure scheduling. There are also a host of 7 game winners in the league. The 8 game winners are currently: Mike Mussina of the Yankees, Curt Schilling of the Red Sox, Jason Marquis of the Cardinals and Brandon Webb of the Diamondbacks.
Looking over his past performances showed a possible trend. The last time he had a bad outing like this, he came back with two straight shut out performances against the Braves and Pirates. It’s something to think about when his next start comes around, which should be against the Phillies on June 13th. He will had an extra day of rest as well. It’s something to keep an eye on.
