The other night Gagne proclaimed his triumphant return by recording his first save. Fans were in a frenzy as their superstar closer was finally back. His save was not simply a ho-hum close, but a Gagne close. He struck out 2 of the 3 batters and had a perfect inning. Yesterday night, it was announced that Gagne is going to rest for at least a few days. Gagne said, “I had an MRI today and everything looked good, but the nerve’s inflamed a little bit.â€
The nerve is expected to relax over the coming couple of days and he should be back pitching next week. The last thing any Dodger fan wants to hear is something wrong with Gagne. However, everyone around the organization is reassuring the media that it’s just a minor issue and all is well. According to Gagne, there was no pain in his arm at all, “it just got stiff.†To be cautious they ordered the MRI and everything major checked out as fine.
While Dodger fans are eager to see the big time closer do his thing, Gagne is even more eager. In fact, he admitted to feeling frustrated. You know he wants to get out there and dominate. We will keep monitoring this story as it unfolds. Hopefully, the issue is as minor as the organization and Gagne are reporting and he pitches again shortly. If his next appearance is off, it might signal something more serious—or it could be a mental issue.
