Tonight we have the first free MLB baseball pick of the 2007 MLB season.

The Chicago White Sox (+107) travel to Seattle (-115) to play the Mariners. The starting pitchers are J. Vazquez for the White Sox and J. Washburn for the Mariners. The under/over is 8.

These two teams are both mediocre, but tonight we have a little edge with my selection.

I looked over this game and found some reasons to play against the White Sox.

• Vazquez will most likely pitch 6 innings, which means the White Sox pen—subject to tiring—is going to pick up 3 innings tonight.
• This is Chicago’s first game of an 8-game road trip and they are playing late.
• Vazquez’s road ERA (two games) is 5.56
• In those two games, he’s given up 15 hits and opponents have a .382 avg against him.

Here are some points for betting on the Mariners.

• Washburn had a complete game his last outing and he’s capable of giving the Mariners 7 innings tonight.
• The Mariners have a great closer in JJ Putz. If the game is anywhere close after 7, look for him to come in and shut things down.
• Washburn’s last outing against the White Sox (2006) was stellar. He gave up one run over 6.2 innings of work. More importantly, he only allowed four hits. I look for him to give up 5-6 hits tonight, which will translate into 2-3 runs for the White Sox.
• Seattle is in the middle of a home stand and they should be ready to play tonight.
