It must be a nightmare for Dontrelle Willis. He is a solid pitcher playing on the second worst team in the major leagues. Last night, despite having a string of great outings, Dontrelee Willis won for just the first time since April 14th—his second win of the season. Willis’ ERA is up this year at 4.72 due to a couple of bad outings, but overall he has pitched very well. Things could be looking up for Florida as they are playing better. No, they won’t be going to the playoffs, but they might not end up losing 110 games as expected.

How good has Willis been? Before last night’s win, he had three previous outings where he pitched 9,8 and 6 innings. In those games he gave up 2 runs per game yet, but lost because the Marlins could not even muster a couple of runs. He also lost a game in which he game up no runs over 5 innings. He lost another outing earlier in the year when he game up just 2 runs.

It looks like Dontrelle Willis needs to learn to hit the long ball so he can do it all. Forget winning 20 games this year, he is trying to just be a 10 game winner. I don’t see him in a Marlins uniform for too much longer. I will be surprised if he makes it the entire year. Look for him to end up in the American League possibly and on a much better team. Next year, Willis is going to have the chance to shine.
