You can’t keep a good team down. Today, the Detroit Tigers put it on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Devil Rays jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, but the Tigers quickly set the pace by scoring 5 runs in the top of the second. They added another in the 3rd, to take a 6-3 lead. The tigers added 2 in the 5tgh, 1 in the 6th and 1 in the 9th. They won 10-4.
Justin Verlander continued his winning ways. He’s 14-4 now. The main issue is innings eaten. He went just 5 innings tonight. He allowed 3 runs over 8 hits and 2 walks. The Tigers need their starters to go deep so the bullpen doesn’t die out at the end of the season.
J.P. Howell had a quick day. He pitched just 3.2 innings. Howell was tagged for 6 runs over 9 hits and a walk in that span. Harper came in to replace him and didn’t do any better. He was nailed for 2 runs over 3 hits and a walk in just one inning of work. Of the 5 Tampa Bay pitchers used, only Jackson, who pitched 2 innings, held Detroit scoreless.
The Tigers pick right back up on the Winning trail and keep setting the pace for the AL Central. They failed to gain any ground, because the White Sox won their game today.
