The Tigers set the tone early in this game by scoring 5 runs in the first inning. Cliff Lee, of Cleveland, just didn’t have any luck running tonight. Despite the hot start, Cleveland made a game of it. They scored in the 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th innings. However, the Indians got the short end of the stick. They lost today’s battle 9-7. The Indians are really playing out the season and waiting for next year. They are hoping to spoil someone’s chances at a playoff birth.
Jeremy Bonderman continued his great season by winning his 11th. He is now 11-4. Today’s outing was not that impressive. He only made it through 5 innings of work and he allowed 4 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. He did strike out 7 batters. Still, Detroit had to use 4 pitchers in the game. While Bonderman got the win, he was not very bullpen friendly.
Todd Jones took the mound in the 9th. Cleveland got a hit off of him, but he ended up crushing any thoughts of a comeback they had. Jones picked up his 26th save of the season. Cliff Lee is now 9-8 after this loss. The real story here is the errors. The Indians gave up five unearned runs. They lost by 2. You do the math. Cliff Lee only allowed 1 earned un over 8 hits and 1 walk, but lasted just 4 innings pitched and got the loss. What a horribly played game.
Young and Inge went deep for the Tigers. Broussard and Vazquez went deep for the Indians. Inge was 5 for 3 with 3 RBIs for the Tigers. Detroit keeps asserting their dominance. This year has been pretty surreal for Tiger fans. With the White Sox losing, Detroit gains another game in the division.
