The Detroit Tigers show absolutely no signs of letting up any time soon. Today’s victim was the Minnesota Twins. Once again, Francisco Liriano was unable to do anything about it. He had an early shower. The game was not that bad until the 7th. That’s when Detroit turned it on and ended the game. The Tigers scored 4 runs in the bottom of 7th and then followed it up with another run in the bottom of the 8th for good measure. The Tigers beat the Twins 9-3.
Francisco Liriano only lasted 4 innings. In that time, he gave up 10 hits and 4 runs. Liriano is quickly proving that he’s no match for the Detroit hitters. Every Tiger hitter that had at least 2 at bats, had at least one hit. Crain pitched 2/3rds of an inning in relief and gave up 4 runs off of 4 walks and 2 hits. He was relieved by Eyre who gave up the final run.
Zach Miner had a decent performance. He went 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs over 7 hits. Zumaya came in for 1.2 innings in relief and shut out the Twins. In the 9th, Grilli came on and shut the door. For the Tigers, the game was nice and neat.
The Tigers are still rolling. The White Sox lost so they add another game in distance. By beating the Twins, they climb one more game ahead as well. The Tigers look like they are going to the playoffs. Could this be their year? Meanwhile the Twins and White Sox could be on the outside looking in when the playoffs come around. Both teams are fighting the Red Sox (or the Yankees if the division lead switches).
