The Boston Red Sox are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now. Yesterday, Curt Schilling and the Red Sox dispatched the New York Mets 4-2. With that win, the Red Sox have now won 12 in a row. They are going for their longest win streak in some 58 years. As luck would have it, they travel to Florida for an Interleague series.

While the Marlins have been playing very well lately, they are not a top team and the Red Sox figure to take the series. The Marlins took one from the Yankees in New York and should have a good shot at taking at least one in this series. The Red Sox continue to find ways to win games and they are putting real pressure on the Yankees and others in the East to keep winning or go down.

The Yankees are 6-4 over their last 10, which is respectable, but they find themselves 4 games back of the Red Sox and heading into a series against the NL East leading New York Mets who must be steaming after their embarrassing sweep in Boston. These two teams are expected to go after one another for the rights to the Big Apple. Toronto, who is 7-3 over their last 10, is 5 games back of the hot Red Sox. Toronto is starting a home series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

If the Red Sox keep playing at this level, there will be no stopping them. They definitely look playoff bound. Adding pressure to the situation is the fact that Detroit has come out of nowhere and is playing super hot. Chicago is keeping pace as well. Because of this, the second place finisher in the AL East might find themselves out of the playoffs. We are coming up on the All Star break and it’s already getting hot in the kitchen.

It’s been 58 years since the Red Sox won 13 straight. If they are going to do it tonight, in Florida, they will have to beat the Marlins best pitcher in Dontrelle Willis. His last outing was against the Yankees. He pitched 8 marvelous innings allowing only 2 runs, but he got the loss, because the Marlins could not score. Tonight the Red Sox are sending Jason Johnson to the mound who is making is debut for the Red Sox. The setup has the Red Sox ready for a fall. We will see.
