Mariano Rivera is no longer the Superman he once was. Today, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Yankees in 11 innings. In the bottom of the 11th, Vernon Wells took a Rivera pitch downtown for the walk off game winner. The sixth inning proved to be the difference in the game. The Yankees had a 3-0 lead going into the sixth, but pitching broke down and the Blue Jays scored four runs.
Tonight’s loss goes to Mariano Rivera. He’s actually 4-5 on the year—surprising. Brian Tallet pitched an inning in relief and gets the win. He’s now 3-0. Mike Mussina started for the Yankees and went 7 innings. Aside from the disastrous sixth inning, he pitched well. Halladay went 7.2 innings for the Blue Jays. He allowed 3 runs off of 8 hits.
The big day goes to Vernon Wells. He was 4 for 5. The big hit was the game winning homerun in the eleventh inning. It should be no surprise, but Alex Rodriguez had another error today. He is really hurting. All the errors have to be getting into his head now. He was 1 for 4 on the day with one walk.
