It’s official. The LA Angels season is over. They gave it a good run, but fell short in the end. Once again the Oakland A’s heated up after the All Star break and it was too much for the Angels. The Angels are 85-72 on the season and watched their season slip away as they lost 5-2 to Texas on Tuesday. The season for the Rangers (79-79) has really been over for some time, but they can take comfort in knowing that they destroyed the hopes of a division foe.

This game was over in the 2nd inning. The Rangers opened up the game by scoring 2 in the first and 3 in the second. It was 5-0 after two innings of play. The Angels managed to pepper in two runs—one in the 5th inning and one in the 8th inning—but the damage was done. They lost the game and their season.

Escobar had a terrible outing for the Angels as such an inopportune time. He lasted just 1.2 innings and gave up all 5 Texas runs. He allowed 7 hits and one hum run. For Texas, Tejeda got his 5th win and pitched well. He allowed just one run over 6.2 innings of work despite giving up 10 hits. The Angels left 9 on base and couldn’t bunch up baserunners to score.

The battle in the AL West is at an end. The Angels are assured of at least finishing above .500 on the season. The Rangers are there now and will be trying to get above the 81 win mark.
